LOTD: David J speaks about our forthcoming music

David J. spoke briefly about our album together in the LA WEEKLY. I only found out about this just now by googling info for his show tonight... where I should be right now but am too tired.

VOTD: Sade & her band... I want to join!

While I am certainly more than pleased with the title track on Sade's first album in a decade, "Soldier Of Love", which has been on heavy rotation with me since it was in my hands in November... I am writing today as I declare that "instead of running away with the circus, I would choose her band, Sweetback.

Watch how much fun they have... they are silly, amazing musicians, know how to have fun and they get the job done and it is well done, for sure!

Btw, if you have NOT seen the video for "Soldier Of Love", here it is in all of its dark, militaristic, near industrial triphop exquisiteness. It is more of a Massive Attack tune than nearly any of the songs on the latest Massive Attack album. Enjoy!

I had to play it again.... I love this tune! I am not sure how many years it has been since I have played a tune so often... but perhaps Last.fm has the rough estimate. (well, often I am listening to music away from the computer)

Helen Folasade Adu is fantastic and I have enjoyed nearly all of the songs on the Soldier Of Love album. You may want to grab it today!

From my list of most anticipated albums of 2010, these are 10 songs to enjoy for years to follow until her next release! Let's hope it is not another decade!

Lastly, I am working with Boom Chick Boom for their comedy sketch show this evening at Theatre Asylum. 9pm, just west of Vine, on the south side of Santa Monica Blvd.

Tomorrow night is my FREE party, Absinthe & Magic Thursdays, at Kung Pao Kitty. Join me early for dinner or arrive a lil later for $3 drink specials and more!

Friday, David J. (Bauhaus, Love And Rockets) is djing at Kung Pao Kitty.

Saturday, I am djing again at Kung Pao Kitty and possibly singing and playing guitar too, want to join me?

Note: the new Red Light District single is a cover of a Sade song that we recorded a few years ago.

VOTD: Broken Hearts Club - Black Cat

This is a snazzy video I have been enjoying for a few quite a while. It is animated & illustrated and directed by Zac Ella & Rob Flowers and the music written by Nathan Whitey.

Enjoy the poppy neo-vaudeville cabaret adventure of The Broken Hearts - Black Cat

The Broken Hearts are reminiscent of Red Light District, which I fancy ;)

Additional notes: I am at the Granada Hills studio, continuing the journey that Johnette Napolitano, David J. and I started in March. Then back to Hollywood to complete other jobs. In the evening, Jill Tracy, Gary Laurie and I are headed to Cafe Was for Jack Dean Stauss's bday. I LOVE THE FOOD THERE!!! Also, who doesn't love a rotating piano in the cernter of the room.

After that, we will stop over to The Beauty Bar for LA BURIED ALIVE (Free) and then over to Monday Night Social to see Simon Shackleton (Elite Force/ Lunatic Calm) spin an electro/breaks set.

Hoping you are having a fantastic Monday!

VOTD: Printer Jam + How To Grow Air

Hello folks! I am excited today for quite a number of reasons.
This wknd I will be in the studio for the entirety, working on my new project that is a trio. The other two folks are Johnette Napolitano and David J. Haskins, who have both been extremely influential in music. It is an honour that they have brought me onboard as a partner! But right now the focus of this post is VOTD, so I will write more on the new project in a future post.

Btw, the Soriah performance was amazing! I highly recommend his work!

This video is tastey!

This next clip is NOT Science Fiction, but actual SCIENCE. It IS a REALITY!

How to grow your own fresh air

(Thanks to Monika Brożyna for the video!)

Before I split, the 3rd of April is nearly upon us and that date marks the FIRST FRIDAY of the next month, which just so happens to be the night of FIRST FRIDAYS @ MEDUSA LOUNGE, my party with Darren Revell.

We had over 500 paying folks last month, perhaps we can repeat this again!!!!
Either way, it WILL be an lovely, fun time and since last month we gave away tickets to see Tricky (Massive Attack), we are continuing with this motion and giving away tickets to see FischerSpooner. We also have D++ aka Danielle spinning and our guest DJ of the month is Mixtress Heidi BlueGirl. There will, once again be an RSVP list which will allow folks who signup early, to get on the FREE list.

Have a great wknd! Eat some exquisite food, see some art, create some art, cohort with some friends, speak with family, pet a dog, cat, snake, rabbit, fox and or chinchilla!

VOTD: IAMX, MT. SIMS & Soriah tonight in LA

I hope your Thursday has been prosperous!

We shall kick it off today with a video that was released under a month ago from MT SIMS. The band is conducted by Matthew Sims, a dear friend from LA, who relocated to Berlin, Germany a few years ago. I was the drummer in the band for a while and have fond memories of working and traveling on tour with him! Anyhow, the focus is not to reflect and swim in the nostalgia lake, so skipping out back to shore... The following video is for one of my favorite songs on his recent album, "Happily Ever After".

MT. SIMS - "Grave"

The next selection is from IAMX, who has a new album coming in a month. Collaboration occur on the new album, featuring IMOGEN HEAP. This video is from a lovely song from the 2005 release, "The Alternative".

IAMX - Song For Imaginary Beings

This evening, my pal, Mz. Jill Tracy and I will be meeting with Captain David J. Haskins and attend a performance by Soriah at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood. If you are unfamiliar with his work, he is a Tuvan throat singer, meaning, he channels the air through his throat, creating harmonics and overtones which present more than one pitch at a time or a chord. If you have ever hung out with me for an extended period of time and have heard me sound like didgeridoo, this is the same process.

Below are two videos, scan through at your leisure! The performance is part of a recurring event and it begins at 8pm. For more information, refer to the Steve ALlen Theater link from above.

VOTD: Brother from LOST & Today Johnette & David

Today will be another long day for me.

It is amazing how circles form. I had wanted Johnette to sing on a song for the Tech Itch & Shok album, then she wanted to bring me on board to an album of hers, then I ran into David J. at The Knitting Factory performance for RLD and Jill Tracy. David wants to work with Jill. Jill and I will be working together and then Saturday, I get and email from David to work with him on his music with Johnette.

Does it seem like an 70s/ 80s Faberge commercial?
So today, Johnette will be here and also David and we will work on the sounds of music. Not the musical!

Today's video you may have seen, but if not, it is a good chuckle based upon Desmond from LOST. This fellow constantly says "Brother" and below is a compilation of such.
Wait for the end!

Additionally, if you are handy with Scooters, drop me a line.
