I arrived at PHL airport (Philadelphia) in the 6am hour and within moments of stepping off the plane, I purchased and devoured a soft pretzel!

Friday night, I am spinning a set with Chas & Phranque at Crash N Burn in Philadelphia. This will be a fun time!

Saturday, there will be folks joining me (you can too) on the journey to Albany, NY, where I will spin from 12am-4am at Original Sin. You can hop a ride with us and celebrate Saturday-O-Ween!

Excited to see Jonneine Zapata perform FREE, 11pm @ Silverlake Lounge. More friends are joining! You should to... ♫

Jonneine Zapata is amazing. See her for FREE @ Silverlake Lounge!

I rarely check myspace messages these days due to not only the virus-like spawn of spam mail but also my increased workload. For some odd, but fortuitous reason, while checking myspace mail, I happened to click on a message on the 11th of October from Jonneine Zapata, which announced she was performing on the 12th for FREE at Silverlake Lounge. I went to her page and before playing tunes from her jukebox, I checked the featured youtube video for "Love Is A Burden".

It reminded me of a variety of artists I enjoy from The Cult to Johnette Napolitano to Patti Smith, something dark but Americana rock to something familiar from my early youth.

Upon further "investigation" of her music, I realized I had to have this music and while some folks may see the surface comparisons to PJ Harvey, it is more of a soulful side upon which she draws her magic. Jim Morrison, Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields), Carole King, Nick Cave and even Tina Turner can be artists of whom one may find similar spirit. Her album is titled "Cast the Demons Out" and is available NOW!.

I will definitely add her music to my mellow home mix of The Dirty Three, Spain, Jeff Buckley, Elysian Fields, Brendan Perry, Red House Painters, Nick Cave (The Boatman's Call era), David Sylvian, Scott Reeder, The BellRays, Morphine, Nine Horses, Robbie Robertson, Lou Reed, etc.

Since there are distractions abound right now. It is important that you know Jonneine is performing this evening at Silverlake Lounge for FREE!!! She has had a Monday residency all month, having recently returned from a tour with Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees. I am foregoing seeing La Roux perform at the El Rey theatre this evening, a show I have wanted to see since last year, to see Jonneine, and am quite certain I will be pleased!

Jonneine is slated to hit the stage tonight at 11pm!

I am hoping she will want to work on the album David J and I are recording and may even ask her to work on the forthcoming Bauhaus tribute. Do not miss this show and please check her music!!!!! Her album has been on repeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Free mp3 download of her performance from the video above here from Spaceland Recordings

Tonight, Fun at Church with Cevin Key & Busdriver

A friend sent me the info on this the other day and you might be interested in attending.

cEvin Key will be performing one last special DJ set before the upcoming Puppy tour this Saturday at the Church in Downtown LA. Here is how the Subcon Cat describes the set::

For something very inspiring Saturday Night, cEvin Key Dj set live, cut up and scratched with Baseck live, then mixed and dubbed in the front of house by SCIENTIST live.

Beyond the Vault's Sonic Death Rabbit will also be featured, along with, according to the flyer "firedancing, bellydancing, and pumpkin pie pudding wrestling," all of which sounds like a recipe for awesome on this lovely charity evening.

Here's the official release and links to all of the performers:::

Jelly Roll welcomes the new moon with another Fancy Dress Event hosted by The Lady Tigra. On Oct. 17th, the moon is at it's darkest, wild forces roam the night and everyone is cloaked in a veil of secrecy. At a masquerade ball one can never be too sure what lies behind the mask! This Event is a Charity Ball for ACLA, a non-profit, benefiting children in the Echo Park and Highland Park communities. ACLA focuses on guerrilla arts and art parks and isn't too lame to be effective for kids :)

Two Floors of performances and DJs: CEVIN KEY (Skinny Puppy, Plateau) and Baseck will lend their dark genius to Scientist's classic dub tracks.....with the legendary SCIENTIST himself at the controls!

cEvin KEY

also performing:

BLACKBIRD and the Feathered People

Artisans Geoff Flint, Burke Roberts, Hawke Hamelton, Phluid and Sonik Mercury will transform the space with soft biomorphic sculptures through which naked dancing nymphs will be gently illuminated.

Additionally: Miss Laura Kranitz ( will have a booth selling her celebrated millenary and unique masks (as seen on Dita Von Teese). Naughty Nannette will bring her delicious gourmet jello shots. Candid Portraits will man the photo booth Sexy Cigarette Girls Oh yeah....did we mention Firedancers and hot chicks wrestling in PUDDING? Yeah.....there's that too.

Nitzer Ebb making new waves

Douglas McCarthy & Bon Harris have had more than 25 years experience of bringing the sonic assault to the dance floors of the world as Nitzer Ebb. They started as teens and as time progressed, the music matured.

To promote their forthcoming album, the boys will open for Depeche Mode's live tour during January & February!

Nitzer Ebb have their own show at The Key Club, here in Hollywood, on the 17th of November. You may just know someone else on the bill for that evening ;)

You can hear Douglas's voice on Kloq's single for Physical and

LOTD: from Google mail to Guthrie

I was reading email earlier and a sponsored link

It lead to this article on wired about Robin Guthrie, the founding member of the influential band, Cocteau Twins.

Last month, his new album, Carousel was released and you can grab it directly from his site. The article is a good read about how the times have changed and includes his thoughts on social networking.

As autumn weaves its way into reality here in Hollywood with its grey skies and cool breezes, it reminds me of 20 years earlier, listening to Cocteau Twins and other 4ad/ Beggars Banquet label artists while either on a long train ride or driving my jeep through the blankets of lightly moistened yellow, brown-red leaves throughout PA, NJ & NY. I can even smell the scent of rain and the dust of the trees in the air!

Now I am even more excited to be heading to the east coast in time for Halloween!
More on east coast performances and DJ gigs later. (hang w/ me in Albany on the 31st)
