Displays of Noctilucent Clouds and Aurora during one night are rare. Noctilucent Clouds, NLC's for short, (aka Night Shining Clouds or Polar Mesospheric Clouds) are the world's highest types of cloud forming on the edge of space at height of about 80 km (50 miles) which is also height where auroras occur. Unlike most of other clouds types, which are mostly made of water vapour, NLCs are comprised of extremely small ice crystals. They are normally too faint to be seen, and are visible only when illuminated by sunlight from below the horizon while the lower layers of the atmosphere are in the Earth's shadow. They can be observed in the summer months at latitudes between 50° and 70° north and south of the equator.

Elysium

Yesterday, I was supposed to go to a free screening at Paramount including free food from Food Trucks. Well, they hit capacity. A bit later, I was walking by Arclight and decided to see what films were playing. Before getting inside, I saw a line outside for a preview screening of Elysium! I went inside and told the Sony folks, "Just so you know, if you need seats filled, I am here to help". They said great and within a few minutes, a ticket for the film was fulfilled! Inside, a quick rendezvous with OhGr and Bill Moseley. On to the film.

Set in 2154, this Neill Blomkamp film (District 9 creator) focuses on the inequalities of society with the wealthy living on Elysium, a Utopian space station and the decaying planet Earth. Language, business and music are used to reflect the differences as well as the color of the film. Damon portrays MAX, who needs to get to Elysium. I do not like to give away much so I will say he does a decent job. Jodie Foster is a dark political character and Sharlto Copley, who played Wikus in District 9, returns as Kruger, a bounty hunter.

The sound, music, effects, props and cinematography are excellent. I enjoyed the film for what it is. I recommend seeing on the big screen. It certainly was fantastic for FREE and a surprise I had planned on seeing it. Enjoy!

I awoke around 8am. Spoke with my father and Victor Castagna (West Coast papa).
Had our show at the Fringe Festival with the talented Tiffany Phillips then worked with a new musician, preparing for Red Light District (Band) and then worked on the Orchestral piece for Acoustica. MAN OF STEEL (2013) Review

Yesterday, I went to the premiere of Man Of Steel. This is a much more human version of Superman than we have seen. The film focuses on him and not about a love story of Clark Kent & Lois Lane. The actors (Henry Cavill, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, etc) do a fine job of playing characters we know.

If quick paced action scenes, eye candy and an awesome score by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL tickles your fancy, you will enjoy this film. It is entertaining but feels long, clocking in around 2 hours 15 mins.

It's directed by Zach Snyder (300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Morrisey) and written by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer (Dark Night films & DC Comics) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0770828/

IAMX - The Unified Field

I listened to IAMX's new album, The Unified Field, this morning while taking care of email and other non-musical tasks.

There is certainly more creativity on this than the latest effort from Depeche Mode. There are, however, quite a few songs that sound like re-hashings of previous material, but overall, I like the direction and inclusion of more organic sounds, however, the mix is quite subdued, and there is nothing overly biting that would draw out the inner dance lover.

Having been a backer on this album, I am glad Chris has become fully independent as an artist and wish him the best. His time in Los Angeles last year certainly influenced his writing but I will let you pick up why I say this upon your own listen. There are some colorful tunes on here and it is a fine "listen at home or on the go" album of twelve songs, surely to add to any IAMX fan's collection.
