If you like things that are AWESOME, you WILL like this!I meant to share this a while ago.I have been following Yoann Lemoune aka Woodkid for the last year or so. He is quite remarkable!
While I am not a very big fan of U2 since Joshua Tree, I know many folks are and today marks TWENTY years since their ZOO TV tour began. Here is a video from MTV, back when Kurt Loder ran the news, about the opening.
Since the release of the follow-up album, "Two Suns", last year, I have not really been a big fan of the direction... or lack. I do, like this song, "Sleep Alone" and the video too, however, it is very similar to a mix of songs from "Fur & Gold", especially the vibe of "Trophy", which I have posted below.
Enjoy and sleep well... I shall report about my day tomorrow and broadcast news about my DJ gig this Thursday at Kung Pao Kitty. Good night!
The syndication of this blog has once again jumped, expanding to a few new places, so for those of you new to these posts, often you will find a new Video Of The Day featuring short clips, trailers, music videos, oddities or "insightful" news.
"Triangle Walks", her third single, is a dark video with blasts of color with close imagery and the music, if you are unfamiliar with Fever Ray, is a fusion of downtempo, synths brewing an ambiance atop familiar grooves and layers with instruments and additional voices of the tribal world variety.
Catch Fever Ray on tour this Summer and if you reside in the states, she will be here for Autumn.
Additional note: I am planning to attend my friend Kelly Ogden's Rollerskating Bday party at The Echoplex at The Echo this evening... Should be interesting to roll all over a concert venue! Have a great day!
A Latino Charlie's Angels in drag? Sure? Get your inner diva out and check this!
Last week, I went to see David J. (Bauhaus / Love And Rockets) perform at the same venue, the Cavern Club Theater, below Casita Del Campo Restaurant in Silverlake, for "JUNE GLOOM" which was an odd spooky goth look back meets cabaret. It was hilarious as it spoofed, yet paid homage, to the tunes and fashion of the time period.
Check the trailer below for more....
The show starts tonight, 8 pm and will run until the 19th of July
“Chico’s Angels 2: Love Boat Chicas!” features Frieda Laye, Kay Sedia & Chita Par who get dolled up to solve another case on the high sea: finding out who killed superstar Charo!
I posted/ twittaged (pronounce "twit-ahh-zjay-ed") this link during the week as my time has been very limited with net activities due to work.
Here is the official LOTD (link of the day) for this. There are more and more interactive videos being created on sites such as youtube & vimeo. inbflat.net showcases various clips, all featuring instruments performed in the key of .... yes, B Flat!
With this site, you simply click to play any of the videos in any order and hocus pokus - ala kazaam - vwah-lahhhhh.... instant soundscapes!!!
If you know me at all.... you will know that Depeche Mode has been a band with much influence in my life since I was a very young fellow.
Apart from having every commercially released album, single, exclusive, I have rare gems including odd remixes Martin has created, Dave singing a rendition of "Song For Europe" by Roxy Music with John Taylor (Duran Duran) on bass, and odd demos, live shows... etc.
Their new full length album, Sounds Of The Universe is set for release on the 6th of April in Europe and 7th, here stateside. The first single is called "Wrong" and I am not sold on the music yet that I have heard, but this has been similar for the last few albums until I got further into it.
Here is a clip of Martin working out parts for this single.
The band will premiere this song on the 21st at The 2009 Echo Awards in Berlin so I am quite certain that a few hours later, we shall see this on youtube. The single is released worldwide on the 23rd.
Sounds Of The Universe 1. In Chains 2. Hole To Feed 3. Wrong 4. Fragile Tension 5. Little Soul 6. In Sympathy 7. Peace 8. Come Back 9. Spacewalker 10. Perfect 11. Miles Away / The Truth Is 12. Jezebel 13. Corrupt
I could put a link for one of the DM songs online and will probably downgrade the quality just a pinch... Check back later this week and perhaps you will find something delightful!
The next posting will be another video post most likely and feature the new effort from The Dandy Warhols. It seems they have become The The
Lastly, thank you to the surprisingly amazing turnout on Friday for Red Light District's debut album release & performance @ The Black Heart Masque / Ruin. If you have photos, or video, please send!!!!
The next performance is this Saturday at Bordello!!! After that is March 5th at The Knitting Factory with Jill Tracy, UXGentlemen and DJ Xian.
I only saw this a bit ago. This is due to my schedule lately... so much to do.. so little time....
Here is Joaquin Phoenix's interview on David Letterman... he looks like a combination of Sebastian Tellier and Tommie Sunshine but is acting like his dead older brother drug addict, River, who killed himself via drugs outside on the sidewalk in front of The Viper Room so many years ago.. oddly enough, if you read my post from today, I spoke about my visit to The Viper Room last night to see EVIL NINE.
Compare Joaquin to Sebastian & Tommie
Joaquin Sebastian Tommie
I am not certain what drugs he is on here, but something similar to a sedative and concrete.
And if that is not enough.... here is a performance from The Vines, also on Letterman, they must have shared the fish with Joaquin.... (btw that is an AIRPLANE reference)
Ok... I am going to get back to working on the album now. I really am glad so many people are planning to attend tomorrow evening!!!!
Here is another reminder!!! Click the image and go to the site and check the show for tomorrow!
Somedays are better than others... which of course makes us appreciate the great days even more. So that we do not lapse any further on the videos, I am going to post two right now that I have been sitting on for some time and then post a flyer for the Red Light District release party @ Ruin in Los Angeles, next Friday.
The first video comes from Liam Howlett's The Prodigy, who have taken a seat in the time machine to combine their old sound that many of us loved with the later sound that others were into. It seems to be a decent blend. An acquaintance of mine, Jagz, worked on several of the tunes for the new album, which makes me more excited to hear the final versions as the 10 demos I have are works in progress.
The first song that was given out for free, the title track, "Invaders Must Die" was produced by DIOYY and came out at the tail of 2008. Omen was released recently as a single and below is the official video which you can also see on their website, The Prodigy.com
Here is a slinky dark computer burnt bit good for a large screen, early or late night.

Here is the flyer for Red Light District's release of "Smoke & Mirrors" for next week, Friday the 13th.
We will be performing a short set with some surprises along the way. Promos will be in hand and we hope you can pass along the message!
If you are a videographer, film maker, puppeteer, artist, horn player or magician, drop a note to the RLD myspace.
The next scheduled shows are 25th of February @ Bordello and 5th of March @ Knitting Factory with Jill Tracy, UXGentlemen and DJ Xian
Lastly, if you are free Saturday and want to dance to some 80s, I am spinning a short guest spot at That Damn 80s Club in Los Angeles at The Monte Cristo.
Some of you may know that my computer's main drive had gone down. It was not a simple task of having data files being backed up to restore. In fact, data such as pictures, mp3s and the like are on external drives. The issue is that I have work... and work for clients that is not completed which has instruction sets and material that is not rendered as it is not in its final state which makes things more difficult.
Similar to a recipe and having the right tools and ingredients in the right place in order to make everything work correctly. If one piece of the system is off, you could wind up with a Turkey Sandwich when you intended on a Pumpkin Pie!
Well, the machine has been successfully revived and life for me carries on now.
Since I have missed quite some time posting videos, I will post quite a few over the next days.
Also, as a reminder, BOOTY!, the art and performance opening party @ INFUSION GALLERY is this evening, 9-1am. I will be sharing some tunes and have been planted as the master of ceremonies for the event. This is NOT my party... so if you have any questions or comments, concerns, etc. Contact Bluegirl Productions. (Click flyer for details & large flyer)
See you there this evening and now onto some videos :)
++++++++++++++
VIDEOS The first one is a bit downtempo and slightly dark, but have no fear as the next two are so uplifiting you will feel like you have just had a drop of retsin, or some minty refreshing blast.
Bomb The Bass - Black River If you do not recall "Beat Dis", you may know his work from producing ULTRA for Depeche Mode
Friendly Fires 'Skeleton Boy' directed by Clemens Habicht This video included white tape, thousands of beanbag balls and the trio.
Animal Collective - My Girls This band is all over the place and you can catch them at Coachella this year. The video is similar to Friendly Fires, but I like the previous video and song much more.
This post shall be continued with videos from frYars, featuring Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode, Night Waves, Dead Confederate, The Japanese Popstars and even footage of a modular robot who rebuilds itself when knocked or kicked over.
