Thank you again to everyone for the very kind and (mostly) thoughtful birthday wishes on the 28th! I was able to bring the celebration to its peak with excellent friends and have some fantastic memories (and of course fine food)!
Table of Events which transpired: Natural History Museum (with Butterfly exhibit) Watts Tower (my second time there, google this!) Moun Of Tunis Restaurant (25 of us in a private room and a strange belly dancer) Kung Pao Kitty (rotation of some folks, larger crew, drinks & dance!) If you have photos or video, apart from me attempting to bellydance, please send!

SY MANN - SWITCHED ON SANTA - My Favorite Things (1970)
VIDEO: Scenes from Tales From The Crypt (GB 1972) Episode: All Through The House Starring Joan Collins
After Joanne Clayton (Joan Collins) kills her husband on Christmas Eve, she prepares to hide his body but hears a radio announcement stating that a homicidal maniac (Oliver MacGreevy) is on the loose. She sees the maniac outside her house but can't call the police because of her husband's body. The segment ends with the maniac, dressed as Santa Claus, being let into the house by Joanne's little daughter. He strangles Joanne to death.
If you dig deep you will learn Sy Mann contributed his talents to numerous stars like Barbra Streisand, Tiny Tim, Sammy Davis, Connie Francis. Add the fact that he made the move in 1953 from Radio to Television, becoming the new musical leader for the Arthur Godfrey show. The best part of that for me is that he replaced a fellow called Dick Hyman. ;) A news article may have read "Sy Mann, no more Dick Hyman".
Have a great Wednesday!
Headed off to Universal shortly. If you are in the Hollywood/ Los Angeles area tonight, see the screenings of the 7 minute films at the 48 hour film festival at the Fairfax theatre. I can grab info for anyone interested in attending. My friend, Rik Carter, has a film featured. After that, MissingToof presents the FREE dance party, LAUNDROMAT, at Libertine (lounge, restaurant & bar).
Current Music: Beastie Boys - Sabotage (Alex Metric Edit)
Wrapping up in the studio with Juliette Angeli for the first time in months. Shortly, I'm headed to the land of Universal, where I will be working with birds, 'coons, foxes and other four-legged friends who are better trained than some people I know ;)
After work, post 9pm, I am headed, with Melixxa, to two events on Sunset. Both of these are free and if you are in the area, you should attend as well if you feel like stretching your legs, moving your feet and or simply want a drink or bite (of food, not me).
The automotive company continues their monthly dance at The Roxy this evening with some stepping of the dub and all you need to do is follow the link and RSVP.
KODE9 & THE SPACEAPE, MARTYN, 12TH PLANET THE ROXY 9009 Sunset Blvd. 90069 18+
Laundromat is the next stop as it is FREE all night, no RSVP. It is thrown by my pal, Aaron (aka Kittens of MissingToof blog fame), the kind gentleman who lent me his Michael Jackson jacket for the Thriller Zombie dance routine at First Fridays
At Libertine 8210 Sunset Blvd. 2 full bars, tasty food & bottle service. Weekly drink specials $5 Patron Plenty of couches. Patio with bar.
Sometimes we need to be reminded that perspective is important and that your view of surroundings and inner thoughts depends on YOU.
I know I need to remind myself that I can view paradise and possibilities if I choose.
This Video Of The Day post was triggered by a dear friend who is going through a rough time and I truly hope he will see this and view his paradise. (or at least a "pair of dice")
I hope many of you take a few moments to breathe and watch.
It is late, but I am just home from work and have to return there in just 7 hours.
The video for the day is Michael Jackson's rehearsal for what was to be his upcoming world tour. I do not have cable not even a traditional TV and I do not have a radio, so I know I have not be as inundated as most folks with coverage. It is still fresh and being that his music was instrumental in my affinity toward music, there is a persistent sting in the heart for this loss.
I was still a fan and even admired some of his more recent work like "2000 Watts" and "Earth Song". Here is one of his final performances.
Btw, I am delighted that so many people have been RSVPing for this coming evening's First Fridays event at Medusa Lounge :) I saw Darren Revell earlier this evening at Kung Pao Kitty, on my way home from work and he is just as excited. David J. was djing there and sadly he can not attend, but I will get David to do a Bela Lugosi Michael Jackson song one day!
Signing off and getting back to working on my Thriller mix for the midnight Zombie Dance routine. If you can attend and or join in the dance or bring a camera, still or video, drop me a line :)
Growing up on the east coast, in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, the coast line was less than an hour away. Atlantic City, New Jersey was the spot in the 70s and early 80s.
This place was known as a mini-Vegas, "down the shore", with the boardwalk smell I can still recall decades later. As the 80s were nearing the 90s, the boardwalk amusement parks closed including Steeplechase, Million Dollar Pier (where Handcuff King, Harry Houdini, performed a stunt) and Steel Pier. Atlantic City became more of the gambling town, less about the kids. The Miss America Pageant remained, however, the even seedier parts of "the shore", became the place where the youth would cruise.
Ocean City was the nicer version, but we will focus on Wildwood!
This was the cake! The Seedy Cake! If you wanted to see wacky hair, fashion and lots and lots of drunk, stoned folks, many girls with hair teased nearly a foot tall and fellows without shirts, ripped jeans with combs in the back pockets, this was the place. Sometimes you found other punk/ alternative folks, but mostly it was a slightly "different crowd".
Morey's Pier & Mariner Landing!!! I can hear the commercial for these amusement parks right now! Actually, load this page for Morey's Piers and just keep it in the background for the audio as the soundtrack to this post. It will make the next paragraph much more vivid.
I do miss the aroma of the salty Atlantic ocean mixed with sun cooked sand, the distant smell of ice cream and cold treats brought by the ice-cream guy, the peanut/ nut stores, cotton candy, pizza, Curly's Fries, bumper cars' burnt rubber (or whatever that was), Salt Water Taffy and Fudge, seagull crap, smoking tobacco and alcohol. Maybe I do not miss all of that. Oddly enough, it has been a long enough time now, that I almost even miss the sound of the infamous boardwalk tram alert which was repeated in place of a horn which reiterated, "Watch The Tram Car, Please!".
So this brings us to today's video which was prompted by seeing a posting from Sarah Lane regarding a clip from Ruthless Films called "Wildwood: The Movie".
This girl, "Jana", at 40 seconds into the video, must have been huffing the Nestle Strawberry Quick mix! What do you think? "It's diff'rnt ev'ry night... n ev'ry night it's diff'rnt!"
Unrelated: We are gathering more Zombies and folks with cameras for the Zombie Dance routine at Midnight night for First Fridays at Medusa Lounge if you want to join or know someone who may. This is going to be fun! http://myspace.com/revellshok RSVP here: http://bit.ly/rsff4
