True Grit @ Arclight Cineramadome review

Today, I caught the 5:45, Sunday screening of The Coen Brothers latest offering, True Grit at the Cineramadome at Arclight, one of the best theatres in Hollywood.

While I am not a fan of Matt Damon and I had just seen Jeff Bridges in the visually stunning yet poorly scripted, Tron Legacy, I was still excited to see this as I enjoy film by the Coens!

I have loved everything of their's from Blood Simple to last year's A Serious Man. I did NOT, however, like Burn After Reading. It should have been called Bored Simple.

This movie proved to be a fantastic journey. I give no spoilers but the epilogue was superfluous.
The lead girl, played by Hailee Steinfeld, is an amazing girl of character. The actress is actually YOUNGER than the 14 year old whom she portrays! If you want to see a strong western with fun dialogue, True Grit is for you! All six of us who watched it were highly entertained... We also liked hitting FAT FISH for $2 sushi after the film ;)

Btw, this is not a remake of the original film, but a new take on the book.

What an amazing film: The Brothers Bloom

Tonight after the weekly $2 Sushi outing to Fat Fish in Koreatown. My pals, Jenz & Angela and I went to see the 10:25 screening of THE BROTHERS BLOOM @ The Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood.

I will want to write something more ultimately, but having just returned, I will say this... It is a great adventure of the two brothers, who are con men & how their final con, before the younger brother, played by Adrien Brody (The Pianist), is played as he is blown away by the woman whom he is supposed to fool, Rachel Weisz.

The story takes place in various countries and combines a classic physical and satirical comedy as well as suspense and even a good ride that allows the romance of the idea of the story to be sincere!

I highly recommend this!

The writer & director, Rian Johnson, is also responsible for the film "BRICK", which was low-fi to say the least. But it did have some folks such as Lukas Haas, who I just ran into at Guitar Center recently.

Last note... I knew Adrien Brody from summer camp. We learned magic together, not the spooky kind, but the ledger / performance, close up and stage illusions ;) Cards were prevalent in the film, and I wonder if he taught his co-stars a trick or two.

I still need to write about "Drag Me To Hell", by Sam Raimi, which I saw last week and also thoroughly enjoyed!

VOTD: Misheard Industrial Lyrics And One cartoon & quick recap!

Check below for misheard lyrics to a song by AND ONE.

I had a lovely wknd from the well attended FIRST FRIDAYS event @ Medusa Lounge to a Saturday at home completing many goals to a long Sunday, including meeting a baby GOOSE, named Earl, waddling down my street behind his daddy, hitting the Farmers' Market (Selma & Ivar), a several hour long hike to the top of ECHO MOUNTAIN, a gathering of friends at FAT FISH for $2 Sushi and then attending Part Time Punks and seeing an old friend who relocated to Manhattan.

Today, my mother and Victor joined me for a quick lunch. I am very happy that we live relatively close to each other.

I have tons of videos of my own to share soon.... speaking of this.... does anyone have a link to the VH-1 special featuring Josie Cotton? I have yet to see this since I do not have tv, so perhaps it is online, I am in the interview footage and would enjoy being able to see this.

Here is today's video. Enjoy!

Lastly, if you have not heard this, I created a fun mix of PINK FLOYD's "RUN LIKE HELL" for the dance floor, car, hang gliding and or rollerskating, etc!

Sunday, Frmrs Mrkt, Hike, Sushi, Part Time Punks

Today is one of those days where one feels very well rested and TRIUMPHANT!!!! While I have merely been home since Friday evening, or rather Saturday early, when I returned from another victorious FIRST FRIDAYS party, I have accomplished so much from cleaning more of the apartment to completing music projects and more... I suppose it was another accomplishment to once again bathe Li, the kitty as well.

My pal, Alan just arrived and is parking... Heidi should be here in a moment... this means I am leaving for the Hollywood Farmer's Market (Selma & Ivar) momentarily then we shall go for a hike.

Later in the evening, 9pm is $2 Sushi @ Fat Fish 3300 6th Street (just West of Vermont) and hopefully headed over to The Echo for PART TIME PUNKS to see The Sixteens, Secret Society of the Sonic Six and Cut Chemist. Wanna join?

MAGICAL WKND + LESS HAIR

The wknd has been fantastic and last evening was nothing short of amazing!

It wasn't what we did, but the group of people who joined!
I will write more about this during the week, including my first new youtube videos in ages.

As luck and timing and synchronicities would have it.... after 2am, we called Legion to see if he wanted to join us at TOI.... apparently.. he was ALREADY THERE!!!!

Anyhow... we wound up back at my apt and my downstairs neighbor wound up turning up at my place along with the nine other folks... Legion and some folks went down to my neighbor's place where Legion got a 4:30 am HAIRCUT.

Somehow, when I went downstairs to check in, I was next in line and so it went...

I slept from 8:45 am until 9:30 am or so and then went to the Farmer's Market with Heidi and Nicole D. and then Heidi, Pooch and I hit Bronson Canyon for our hike.
I came home and decided it was time to shave the beard.

Ok... now to eat and work on music.

Tonight is $2 Sushi @ Fat Fish (3300 Sixth Street)
And then I am hoping to go dancing and ...

There is some neat event happening tonight if you dig Fishbone & P-Funk!!!

Trulio Disgracias - 11pm @ The Good Hurt, Venice
"All Star Funk Jam Band...members from Fishbone, Parliment, P-Funk & more."
11:00pm 1:30am

QUICK FINAL NOTES:
Next Friday is FIRST FRIDAYS @ Medusda Lounge
RSVP for Guest List

Tuesday, I will be DJing at STINKERS in Silverlake.
(2939 W Sunset) It is FREE!
