This is the first song, nearly 25 minutes, Prince performed Thursday night. I shot this with my droid phone. Btw, Tambourines were sold last night for $80! Tickets, however, were only $25.

Nitzer Ebb helped pave the way for modern dance music. Their aggressive beats and chants have provided for quite an aerobic workout in the darkest of clubs to the radio mainstreams of the late 80s & 90s.

Their Industrial Complex tour, ignites this evening at the Key Club in Hollywood.

I am headed to see DEPECHE MODE a bit later today.
The band is performing at Hollywood and Vine to promote 'SOUNDS OF THE UNIVERSE' on the Jimmy Kimmel show, which just dropped into circulation on the 20th and 21st, depending on your territory, however, it's quiet or rather leaked presence has been around for over the last few months.

Helicopters are already out, surveying. There is an expected 10 thousand + turnout for this spectacle. I will report more later.

FixmerMcCarthy performs tonight at Das Bunker.


Douglas is the voice of Nitzer Ebb, who you may have heard since the 80s on such dance classics as "Let Your Body Learn", "Murderous" and the top ten dance hit, "Join In The Chant". While the band had other hits, including "Control" and "Lightning Man", it was "Fun To Be Had" (also a top ten hit) that actually landed them much more commercial exposure due to MTV's 120 minutes.

They toured the world with Depeche Mode, worked for years with Flood (who produced U2's The Joshua Tree and PWEI and nearly everyone who was amazing in that era), collaborated with William Orbit (who produced Beth Orton and Madonna) and they even were remixed by George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic

Apart from Nitzer Ebb, Douglas has also contributed vocals to Client, KLOQ, MOTOR and TechItch/Shok, a project I have with Mark Caro, who is celebrating his birthday today! Terrence Fixmer will be summoning the music tonight and he is one bad fellow! He wrote a fun dance track in 98, "Electrostatic", that made its way to the top within one year. Now, together with Douglas, they are storming the dance floors and festival grounds around the globe for maximum dance capacity!

Douglas's music as Nitzer Ebb, had a profound impact on me as a teen and even today. First of all, you could not go to a club in the late 80s or early 90s that played dance music and NOT see someone wearing the NE shirts, particualrly the Showtime era from 1990 forward, which was a huge seller during their tour with Depeche Mode.

He and I became friends and went on to work together on music. We have been on many journies... even the trials of vehicle malfunction in the hot desert when both of our mothers and my doggie, Miss Pooch-A-Rilla were stuck! (We did prevail!)
I am looking forward to supporting this man tonight and dance dance dancing!


Together, FixmerMcCarthy will take the stage at the local Los Angeles, DAS BUNKER this evening. Be prepared to see some hard dance beats and some familiar vocals. Often, they perform new takes on some Nitzer Ebb classics.

SLEEPMASK & Video Premiere tonight @ Cinespace

Firstly,

Happy Egg n Bunny Day! Happy Keester!

I hit the farmers market (selma & ivar) then instead of the usual hike, visited mi madre for a lil and walked to the local park. I am now home and will work on finishing some music.

What are you doing on Easter? Did you have green eggs n ham, Sam I Am?



Secondly, this evening, my ole friend, Ming and his band, SLEEPMASK, will perform @ Cinespace for the premiere of their video, "Choose That Girl", directed by Justin Coloma.

Several of us had the pleasure of viewing an early cut of this a few weeks ago in my apartment. I look forward to seeing this on the "relatively" big screen. See you there!!!

BEATS ANTIQUE & BASSNECTAR performing @ El Rey Theatre

Holy Moses and the lil baby jesus! I am very excited to go see BEATS ANTIQUE & BASSNECTAR at The El Rey Theatre tonight.... I am truly hoping there is a major delay as I am about to leave for work @ Universal Studios now and complete around 10pm.... anyhow.... I have been a huge fan of BEATS ANTIQUE for some time now... Their first album was excellent and their recent album, COLLIDE, continues with their magical blend of tribal rhythms, bellydance friendly world grooves and electronic bliss but now with the essence of ragtime! (Just like the refreshing lemon scent of dishwashing fluid commercials) This music is not dissimilar to Red Light District, which I happen to also enjoy for good reason.



I am also looking fwd to seeing the live audio delights from BASSNECTAR, who is headlining. There are some SICK videos of him on youtube, however I am sharing a video featured on his myspace home. I could go on about his work but due to time limitations, here is a press piece on him.

"A freeform project that merges music, art, new media, social involvement, and community values; dedicated to a constantly-evolving ethos of collaborative creation, self-reinvention, and boundary-pushing experimentation. While existing as a mutating collaborative effort, Bassnectar is traditionally the amorphous music project of Lorin Ashton, a San Francisco based Musician / Producer / DJ, (“probably the largest cult following of any DJ in San Francisco” – SF Weekly) highlighted by massive basslines, thick mob scene beats, freakshow energy, emotive melodics, traditional acoustic instrumentation, and fearless mashing of genres, styles, sounds, moods, and approaches. Fusing elements of midtempo breakbeats, big beat, old school hip hop and dub, DnB, glitch, IDM, electronica, death metal, grindcore, punk rock, alternative, folk, swing, and jazz; and sampling anything from the human history of sound and music, Bassnectar might be most accurately described as “omni-tempo maximalism."

smooth flights

arrived @ SEA airport 11:37 (early as it was scheduled 11:58)

Kelly and her friend Earlene picked me up
We stopped a bank for Kelly outside of this huge Asian market called Uwajimo's
I ran to the corner and ordered a Taro boba tea (certainly the best I ever had and it was the least expensive)

Got to Kelly's
The three of us headed for Chinese where we split mooshu chicken (love that hosin sauce) and the kung pao chicken.

[it was raining like cats and frogs and dogs and water]

Returned to Kelly's
I zonked out for a few hours from approximately 4pm until just before 8pm

Headed out to see Michael and Jon's [VAST] concert at Studio Seven
Michael met us outside and we went in and Trish Murphy ran up to me and YAY!
(Hadn't seen Trish in several years)

(SIDE NOTE: This excursion to Seattle was initially intended for a few weeks from now but whilest organizing it with Kelly, I got a rare IM conversation happening with Trish who used to reside in Philadelphia, but is now living in West Virginia, who told me she was to be in Seattle this wknd to see her friends and for the VAST concert. Instantly, I was excited about the prospect of enjoying the company of all three aspects; Kelly plus Trish plus the VAST boys and seeing a concert. I contacted the band and sure enough it was a good scenario. I realized that even though it was only 7 days until it would be the 26th, the show date for VAST, the ticket price was the same as had I taken the trip a few weeks later... I wound up paying $200 after taxes, roundtrip and via paypal, directly to USAIR. I like that they added a paypal feature!!!)

Ok... so back at the concert... the girls, Michael and I headed upstairs.
After a round of drinks, Michael had to take the stage.
VAST = amazing as usual. Jon looks good, sounds good and such!!!
(SEE THEM ON TOUR... the Los Angeles date is SOON)
Kelly and I sat at a table with Trish's friends.

Eventually, we, Kelly, Trish and her mate called Richard ate at The Five Points.
Sans Kelly, we shared The Five Points sampler; onion rings, fried mac n cheese wedges, pepper bits, and such... basically FRIED CRAP with Marinara.
I had... or shall I say.. tasted the hot turkey sandwich as it was cold so I sent it back and then it sat back there til nearly everyone finished their meals.. then it came back microwaved and cold as the waitress let it sit for nearly 20 mins. Sent it back again and it returned so over microwaved (she probably forgot about it again while cooking) that it had turned into Turkey Jerky and the bread was like a catcher's mitt!
I suppose I didn't need to eat anyway and it was removed from the bill.

Trish and Richard got picked up by the rest of their friends
Kelly and I returned to her place (this is still before 2am)
Talked a bit
Kelly fell asleep
I did not feel tired, however it was less than five more minutes until I was out like a trout.

Awoke 8am
Checked in on Miss Pooch-A-Rilla via phone (she has a great phone bark/ voice)
Here we are...

Plans: SUSHI! See Michael & Jon (they have a day off), see Trish, see Thomas (of Thomas & Alison Velvet Garden) Chris Seraphim, etc.
