VOTD: IFH Mondays vs TGI Friday's

I have been sitting on this one for ages. Today feels about right.

I am performing tonight at Henry Fonda Theatre and then I will split with David J for SF. Another random note is that today I will see Alec Bien, a teacher, coach and friend, whom I have not seen in over 20 years!

Girl deletes WoW characters. Boy FREAKS

This neglected girlfriend deletes her boyfriend's WoWarcraft characters and hides the camera to catch his reaction. While this is quite an interesting response he has, imagine if she had sabotaged his hobby had it been model airplanes or artwork. Either way, it is not great to neglect your partner.... so LOOK OUT!!!!

VOTD: Duran Duran - Wild Boys

I have spent the last few days working on a remake of this classic by Duran Duran and the video you see is the extended version you may or may not have seen when it was released at the height of the MAD MAX frenzy... before Mel Gibson was outed as a NAZI @$$Hole. Going back, this video cost over 1 million dollars to create, which was a RIDICULOUS amount of loot for anything as such at the time of its 1984 release. More on the video here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wild_Boys_(song)

My plan is to perform this on the 28th of June at the Henry Fonda show with a few other covers before Concrete Blonde storms the stage with their magical performance!

Concrete Blonde, Flametal and Shok (Red Light District / Zeitmahl)

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=126280774077078

*Concrete Blonde began are best known for the poignant songwriting and vocals of Johnette Napolitano.

Singer/ songwriter/ bassist Napolitano formed Dream 6 with guitarist James Mankey in Los Angeles in 1982, releasing an eponymous EP in France on the Happy Hermit label. When they signed with IRS in 1986, labelmate Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) suggested the name Concrete Blonde, describing the contrast between their hard rock music and introspective lyrics.

Their self-titled debut album betrayed the influence of the Pretenders. The second album, "Free", showcased Napolitano's developing songwriting and produced the college radio hit, "God Is a Bullet." The morose, textured Bloodletting, a more accomplished record than both of its predecessors, broke the band to a wider audience with the left-field Top 20 hit "Joey," the tale of a love affair ended by alcoholism and "Mexican Moon" reflected Napolitano's interest in Hispanic music and culture. The Title song is still played as an anthem in underground clubs around the world.

Concrete Blonde may have new material coming soon, along with Johnette's other projects including a flamenco project and Tres Vampires, where she is joined by David J. (Bauhaus / Love And Rockets) & Shok (Zeitmahl / Red Light District), who is also on the bill for the 28th.

*Shok is a Producer, Composer, Multi-Instrumentalist and has been the drummer for bands such as Thrill Kill Kult, Mount Sims and Zombie Girl. His work both as producer or remixer spans the array from Bauhaus founders Daniel Ash and David J. to Josie Cotton, L7’s Donita Sparks, Douglas McCarthy (Nitzer Ebb), Adam Freeland, Traci Lords, Technical Itch, Combichrist and Lloyd Kaufman (Troma Films). He sings and plays guitar for rock outfit, Zeitmahl & Trumpet and drums for neo-vaudeville Cabaret 7-piece band, Red Light District. His take on "Lucretia, My Reflection" by The Sisters of Mercy, titled, "New Cretia" by Sisters Of Mixing received mass blog, radio and dance floor action.

He, Johnette Napolitano and David J. (Bauhaus/ Love And Rockets) have a forthcoming album together, Tres Vampires
Shok will be singing & DJing music during his set on the 28th.

*Flametal are pioneering a new genre, the first of its kind, the unholy union of Flamenco and Metal. Spearheaded by innovative artist Benjamin Maderas Woods, flamenco guitar is his profession, metal is in his blood, and by recruiting the best musicians and dancers, they execute this fatal fusion. Flamenco is a song, music and dance style which is strongly influenced by gypsies, but which has its deeper roots in Moorish and Jewish musical traditions.

VOTD: Skunk Anansie - Charity

This song is oddly in my top songs of all time list. The combination of the loud and hard intensity with the balance of the delicate intimate passages. I literally am moved to a tear every time I hear this anthem.

If you are unfamiliar with Skunk Anansie, I recommend "Selling Jesus" as another song. The song and band are highlighted in the 1995 film, "Strange Days".
