First Fridays & Thriller, July 3rd @ Medusa Lounge LA

Join us next Friday, July 3rd, to celebrate the beginning of an amazing Summer of Life, Music & Dance!

We have lots of special treats & surprises in store.

It was a very sad day for many on June 25th with the passing of Michael Jackson. His music and artistry had a profound effect on my life. From his forward thinking, yet hugely pop-structured songs to avant garde futuristic military fashions to groundbreaking music videos featuring worldly influential dance routines, motion picture quality special effects and even Captain EO, he managed to influence culture on a myriad of levels.

As a young fellow, I remember watching THRILLER's debut on MTV at a friend's house party. Nearly our entire school class gathered to watch this world-wide premiere. I later would think it was cool to entertain friends, having learned the entire dance moves to his routines from the videos such as Thriller and Bad. I can still rock the moonwalk! I have to thank MJ influencing my affinity with music and entertaining in general to have become a musician and performer.

So in memory of Michael Jackson, along with the ingredients which create our monthly party so well received by you, we are featuring a midnight presentation of the famed THRILLER DANCE.

If you would like to join the special routine and have even halfway decent dancing skills, please contact me fda@newgrounds.com
Seeking videographers, photographers and zombies!

The party runs from 9-2am. The colors red, black and silver, Michael Jackson jacket or sparkly glove are strongly encouraged.

Millenium Products, is once again, providing Synergy Drinks & Kombucha Tea (FREE) for rehydration after you have been dancing madly!

Darren Revell (Big Sonic Heaven, Indie 103.1fm) and I will be spinning a variety of music to get you rocking the dancefloor fever!

From Depeche Mode to Sonic Youth, Ladytron to Duran Duran, The Stone Roses to The Prodigy, Stevie Wonder to Killing Joke, The Cult to Royksopp, Ministry to Justice, Alex Metric to IAMX, we have you covered.

FREE RevellShok July Top Picks Mix CDs will be handed out during the night!
FOOD at Medusa Lounge is fantastic too, so save room for delicacies!
FREE admission from 9-10pm with RSVP and $5 after.

Bring your cameras & comfy shoes. Be prepared to have an amazing party.

We look forward to seeing you!!!

The Fawcett is Off

Farrah Fawcett passed away this morning. Our fave feathered Charlie's Angel was taken by her long battle with cancer.

She was 62 and companioned with her long-time mate, ex-partner, Ryan O' Neal (star of Kubrick's Barry Lyndon and father of Tatum O' Neal).
Since the late 60s, she had been in various roles from a guest appearance on S.W.A.T., I Dream Of Jeannie, to a role in the hit, The Six Million Dollar Man, where she met her once husband, Lee Majors, to her most notable work as Jill Munroe in Charlie's Angels from mid-70s to 1980. She is the first Angle to pass.

Who else can claim to have been the catalyst to one of the biggest hair trends in history? Feathered Hair was her trademark. Did you see Cannonball Run? I know I did ;) When you were a child and saw that... she was hot stuff. So was Adrienne Barbeau too though. Many of the cast members from the film have passed away, including Dom DeLuise, who died last month on the 20th of May, also from cancer.

In Farrah's later years, she was infamous for her addictions and crude behavior including petty theft and urinating on a front lawn at a house party. She was also on several television roasts and often the brunt of jokes.

She will, however be remembered by me as the 70s/ early 80s feathered hottie!
I trust that sounds fair, coming from my childhood memories.

Goodbye Farrah, you will always be a Charlie's Angel!

Ed McMahon

Ed McMahon has passed and left us.

If you are 30 and above, you most certainly recall his co-hosting of Johnny Carson's Tonight Show and the famous introduction every week night, "Heeeeere's.... Johnny!!!".

He died today, at age 86, with his family surrounding him.

Besides his multi-decade run as co-host, he also was involved with many commercials and had another famous career with Publisher's Clearing house, where he would supposedly arrived at random subscriber's door steps with a huge check... literally a physically large-sized check.

Last year he pimped himself for an advertising campaign as a rapper!

His struggle with pneumonia is no more.

See you later

VOTD: Broken Hearts Club - Black Cat

This is a snazzy video I have been enjoying for a few quite a while. It is animated & illustrated and directed by Zac Ella & Rob Flowers and the music written by Nathan Whitey.

Enjoy the poppy neo-vaudeville cabaret adventure of The Broken Hearts - Black Cat

The Broken Hearts are reminiscent of Red Light District, which I fancy ;)

Additional notes: I am at the Granada Hills studio, continuing the journey that Johnette Napolitano, David J. and I started in March. Then back to Hollywood to complete other jobs. In the evening, Jill Tracy, Gary Laurie and I are headed to Cafe Was for Jack Dean Stauss's bday. I LOVE THE FOOD THERE!!! Also, who doesn't love a rotating piano in the cernter of the room.

After that, we will stop over to The Beauty Bar for LA BURIED ALIVE (Free) and then over to Monday Night Social to see Simon Shackleton (Elite Force/ Lunatic Calm) spin an electro/breaks set.

Hoping you are having a fantastic Monday!

VOTD: The Count does this all day & Theatre tonight!

To not keep it dark all day, after the last entry, let's brighten the day with an uplifting dessert chaser of sorts. Our long lost pal & muppet, THE COUNT, from Sesame Street, conveys how he fills his time.

Also, if you are in LA, Juliette Angeli, of Red Light District, is starring in
MADNESS IN VALENCIA
this evening, 8pm, at SACRED FOOLS theater in Los Angeles.

VOTD: Iran.

Since there is a slew of information regarding Iran all over the web presently, I am not going to reiterate what you have already seen by twisting someone else's words to become another talking head. I am not also going to feed into any trends that will ultimately just be wasting time. What I WILL DO, is pass along video that my friend, Maz, who is Iranian, sent me.

Maz Jobrani intially was a Political Science major who then became a hilarious, brilliant comedian and actor. His AXIS OF EVIL comedy tour, which aimed at breaking stereo types of middle eastern folk, may be seen and streamed on Netflix and of course a slew of not so legal methods of streaming too.

Below is the first clip he sent and please note the excerpt of translation I pulled from the page on youtube, located beneath it.

An excerpt of what she says:
"...Where is this where weve been imprisoned so innocently?
Where is this where no one gives us a helping hand?!
Where is this place, where we are getting our voices heard worldwide through our silence?
Where is this place where the blood of its young people is shed on the streets..., where people stand and pray on their blood?
Where is this place where its people are named Gangsters & Thugs?!
Where is this?
This is Iran. This is my land and yours!
This is Iran"

Here is a longer piece with news:

VOTD: 2012 Full Trailer

This looks impressive!

I was hoping to post this yesterday, but here we are today before I start a session. I am eager to see 2012.

I had seen the early sneak preview trailers but this is the full mama!
Some of you know Gary Laurie, who masterminded some of the visual effects on this!

The story may be horrid, but the visuals will be worth it!

VOTD: Fever Ray - Triangle Walks

The syndication of this blog has once again jumped, expanding to a few new places, so for those of you new to these posts, often you will find a new Video Of The Day featuring short clips, trailers, music videos, oddities or "insightful" news.

Today's video comes from Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife. I posted her first video at the start of the year in this earlier post.

"Triangle Walks", her third single, is a dark video with blasts of color with close imagery and the music, if you are unfamiliar with Fever Ray, is a fusion of downtempo, synths brewing an ambiance atop familiar grooves and layers with instruments and additional voices of the tribal world variety.

Enjoy "Triangle Walks" by Fever Ray

Catch Fever Ray on tour this Summer and if you reside in the states, she will be here for Autumn.

Additional note: I am planning to attend my friend Kelly Ogden's Rollerskating Bday party at The Echoplex at The Echo this evening... Should be interesting to roll all over a concert venue!
Have a great day!

VOTD: The INTERNET from the past

The video below is a report from Tom Brokaw more than a decade ago, discussing how every company would be online by 2000.

I remember in the 80s, waiting for a few hours to be so excited to have sat with a friend and have seen a photo being sent from another friend.

We prank phoned a friend & were amused to hear her voice through the horrid computer speaker (one speaker, not two... there was no stereo option!)

My 44mb external hard drive in the 90s was several hundred dollars!
A few months ago I got a 6gig mini Sony usb drive for $6 at Frys in Burbank.

A Latino Charlie's Angels in Drag?

A Latino Charlie's Angels in drag? Sure? Get your inner diva out and check this!

Last week, I went to see David J. (Bauhaus / Love And Rockets) perform at the same venue, the Cavern Club Theater, below Casita Del Campo Restaurant in Silverlake, for "JUNE GLOOM" which was an odd spooky goth look back meets cabaret. It was hilarious as it spoofed, yet paid homage, to the tunes and fashion of the time period.

Check the trailer below for more....

The show starts tonight, 8 pm and will run until the 19th of July

“Chico’s Angels 2: Love Boat Chicas!” features Frieda Laye, Kay Sedia & Chita Par who get dolled up to solve another case on the high sea: finding out who killed superstar Charo!

VOTD: Jordan Reyne's post apocalyptica

Today's selection was suggested to me via my last.fm page

As described on Miss Jordan Reyne's page, this is "a post-apocalyptic blend of train sounds, deep bass tones and melodic vocals. a car crash combination of found-sound"

Here is a second video of her's (since you may need a chaser).
Dark and I could say languid, but it seems to focus on aspects of the human process, technology and spirit.... and a WASHING MACHINE.

You can listen to lots of her music here:

Enjoy the rest of your day!

This comes from my pal Trishy, who is in town right now, visiting from Philadelphia and spinning at First Fridays this evening! (see invite)

This is one crazy cat below... Macavity takes bus trips weekly to Wolverhampton (home of Mark Caro and near Birmingham, UK).  They mention in the article, a fish n chips spot is nearby the stop.  Notice the one blue and one green eye combination!

Toy Story 3 Trailer

"I must say": I was a fan of the first TOY STORY film and even enjoyed some of the sequel, so I will certainly see the 3rd. The youtube video below displays a distant year wait to catch this.. that basically means if you blink several times... it will be 2010.
Has anyone seen UP?  I am looking forward to seeing this at El Capitan in 3D, just a short two blocks from my home.

Bonus points if you can name the person with the triangle at the top left! ;)

Interview, Zeitmahl song & Party Reminder

First of all... I have so many movie reviews... that when I finally have more time, I will be posting a series of these! You have to see THE ROOM... not becuase it is good, but because it is simply one of the worst films, it is hilarious! I caught the late night screening of this on Saturday... it played on all five screens at the Sunset 5 in Hollywood and was SOLD OUT!!!

Moving along now.

AFIN featured an interview with me, focusing on my recent remix and productions. Besides a walk-through on the process of how I create a remix, there is a link to download the first newer Zeitmahl song anyone has heard in five years.
You can view this article here

This is reminder that our monthly party, FIRST FRIDAYS @ Medusa Lounge is this Friday!!!

It will be very exciting as we have tons of goodies from Free Synergy Drinks, Kombucha Tea, Free CDs, your chance to win tickets to see The Orb & Peter Murphy (We have lots of tickets to give away), Miss DJ Vixen Van Go Go from Philadelphia and all of this is FREE if you RSVP and arrive on time!

On Friday, I am hoping to debut my remix for the new Fischerspooner song, "We Are Electric", so if you are a fan, you will be the first to hear it!

I am presently at work, so I must go and watch this airplane get blown up a few times now!
